Certified Aging
in Place Specialists - CAPS
Kenrick Construction,
Inc. is a Certified Aging-In-Place Specialist (Caps) company implementing
Universal Design. We will assist maturing seniors and individuals with
special needs to maintain their independence by staying "in place"
(normally at home). Kenrick Construction offers the ability to do so
safely and with dignity.
What are some examples of Universal Design?
In the Bathroom:
- Higher toilet
or toilet accessories.
- Expanding a bathroom
to allow space for a wheelchair or walker.
- Walk-in shower
replacing bathtub to prevent falls.
- Adding shower seats
for sitting convenience.
- Adding grab bars
around a toilet, tub, and shower area to give added stability.
- Lowering counters
and light switches to allow easier access.
Throughout the Home:
- Improve stair mobility
for someone with limited abilities.
- Widening of hallways
to give greater wheelchair access.
- Raising appliances,
such as dishwashers, clothes washers, and dryers to reduce back strain.
- Convert a room
to a bedroom on first floor to reduce stair travel.
- Adjust height
of home controls, like lighting and thermostats and alarm systems.
- Adding wheelchair ramps
can provide greater access in and out of home.
There are many ways to update a home
to allow seniors to stay in their homes or if a family member is having
an aging relative move in. And it's not about turning a house into a
nursing home. It's about making the features more safe and convenient
to get them moving again.
How Does This Improve Home Values?
Given the aging population (ages 45-64); there is a great need for homes
with special types of accommodations. Not only do these modifications
help seniors, they can help children too.
